SPACE PEOPLE EXPLAIN NOV. 7th!

(this post was reblogged from )

In 1957, LIFE photographer Ralph Crane covered George Van Tassel’s “Fifth Interplanetary Spacecraft Convention” at the Giant Rock in the California desert, capturing dozens of images that have found their way into the Google-hosted LIFE archive. In attendance were the likes of Daniel Fry, Orfeo Angelucci, Howard Menger, Evelyn Smith, Truman Bethurum, and a few others BSRF followers may just recognize.

Unfortunately, this particular gallery is thoroughly disorganized, tagged only with the description “Flying Saucer Convention”, the year 1957, and the photographer Ralph Crane. We’ll be continuing to browse and search through it for ourselves in the days and weeks to come, and encourage all interested parties to do likewise.

Were you there in 1957? Did you find anything of particular notability in the LIFE archives? Please, let us know!

Juan Ochoa offers his vision of Meade Layne drifting far, far out into the Etheric realms of the high Mojave, standing in sight of the Giant Rock, as he reviews an old edition of Mr. George Van Tassel’s “I Rode a Flying Saucer“…

faridaamar says: Integratron

“The Integratron is the creation of George Van Tassel, and is based on the design of Moses’ Tabernacle, the writings of Nikola Tesla, and telepathic directions from extraterrestrials. This one-of-a-kind building is a 38-foot high, 55-foot diameter, non-metallic structure originally designed by Van Tassel as a rejuvenation and time machine. Today, it is the only all-wood, acoustically perfect sound chamber in the U.S.”

And a bit more: “Calling Occupants (The Giant Rock Conventions)” by Gregory Bishop and Kenn Thomas (Fortean Times #118, January 1999) provides a quick run-down of what Van Tassel and his group were all about.
